    This event has been postponed due to the surge in COVID cases among the unvaccinated.

    The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce will reconnect with business members after a challenging year, and celebrate its 35 years of service at the Effingham Royale: 35th Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet. The event is scheduled for Thursday, August 19, 6pm, at Local on Laurel, 606 N. Laurel Street in Springfield. It is sponsored by Georgia Power, The McGraley Company, Carlson & Co., the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority, Effingham Health System, Brad I Cherney Agency State Farm, and Waste Doctors USA.

    The chamber?s annual awards banquet, normally held in June of each year, was cancelled in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The event will return to its successful 2019 format, featuring a social hour with casino games, dinner, presentation of the chamber?s annual awards and recognition of special guests, followed by more socializing at the casino tables.
     
    "People have been asking when we would bring back this event they enjoyed two years ago," said chamber CEO Andy Cripps. "We're excited to have this opportunity to reconnect with our members, recognize important contributors to our community, and to have some fun."
     
    The event marks the 35th anniversary of the chamber?s founding in 1986. The chamber traditionally presents its prestigious John Adam Treutlen Award, recognizing an individual for significant contribution to Effingham County. The chamber will also present its Small Business of the Year award and the Beacon award to the chamber Ambassador of the year.
     
    While the worst effects of the pandemic have subsided, the chamber encourages anyone who is not vaccinated or who is at elevated risk of respiratory illness to be cautious of emerging variants and to forego attending large indoor events.
     
    Tickets are $70 each and include dinner, beer, wine and soft drinks, and casino play money. Advance registration is required. Tickets can be reserved at the chamber?s website, or by contacting the chamber offices. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
