Ribbon‑Cutting Celebration: StoryWalk Launch at McCall Park

Join us in celebrating a delightful new adventure that brings books to life under the Georgia sky! Live Oak Public Libraries and the Effingham County Board of Commissioners are thrilled to mark the grand opening of the StoryWalk® at McCall Park.

📍 The celebration will take place at the McCall Park playground, where the community is invited to explore this exciting new feature that combines reading, movement, and the outdoors.

This special event unveils a permanent StoryWalk—an engaging, family‑friendly trail where stories unfold page by page along a winding path. Vibrant, weather‑resistant panels display oversized pages from beloved children’s books, inviting visitors of all ages to walk, read, and play, nurturing both literacy and movement in our community. Best of all? The stories will be refreshed quarterly, keeping each visit fresh, interactive, and full of discovery.

📖 The first featured book in the StoryWalk will be The Soil in Jackie’s Garden by Peggy Thomas, beautifully illustrated by Neely Daggett—a perfect choice for encouraging curiosity about nature and gardening.

A Live Oak Public Libraries Youth Services Specialist will host a special storytime during the event and lead families through a group reading of the StoryWalk. Attendees can also stop by the LOPL table to learn more about library programs, services, and upcoming events. Light snacks and water will be available for all guests.

The StoryWalk at McCall Park is a partnership at its best: Live Oak Public Libraries, with locations in Rincon and Springfield serving Effingham County, brings the magic of stories outdoors. The County Commissioners have enabled this wonderful public amenity. Together, we’re encouraging families to connect—with nature, with literature, and with each other.

Why you’ll want to be there:

    • A joyful fusion of literacy and active fun—ideal for families, caregivers, educators, and especially young readers

    • A beautiful outdoor setting—McCall Park, where learning meets leisure

    • Community pride—celebrating local collaboration and innovation

    • Ever‑changing experiences—stories evolve each quarter, inviting repeat visits

    • A fun, engaging storytime and opportunity to connect with library staff

We look forward to seeing you there—come stroll, read, and celebrate with us!
