Protect Yourself Before It's Too Late In its most recent data (2006) the FBI reported that 9.9 million Americans were identity theft victims and businesses and consumers had losses of over $52.6 billion. In Georgia cases of identity theft are rising dramatically. Our state now ranks 7th highest in the US per 100,000 persons. This seminar will cover the latest schemes used by the bad guys. This includes everything from telephone scams, job related crimes, stealing check information and social security numbers, "snail mail" tricks, dumpster diving, shoulder surfing, stimulus and social networking scams. Criminals are hacking computers, using spy-ware, phishing for information and getting to your account numbers and passwords by using software programs called "trojans, ad ware and spy-ware." These open your computer's back door files to a treasure of data you don't want compromised. Learn how you can fight back and prevent identity theft from happening in your business and home. Because of the anticipated response, the Chamber is offering this seminar at three different times. First Session - Wed. July 8 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Seminar location: Effingham County Chamber of Commerce - Welcome Center, 520 W. 3rd St., Springfield, GA 31329.
